STAGING ANXIETY (2017)

3 screen video installation

'In this video installation, I asked a group of performers to reenact situations I observed during group therapy in a mental health clinic, and also situations that could happen in daily life such as a birthday party. The actors on set got confused about what part they were playing in what situation, and the videos reflect those awkward moments of staging, improvisation, confusion and voicing an experience that is not your own'. —Marijn Ottenhof

From June - August 2017 Marijn Ottenhof stayed in Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York through Beautiful Distress residency program.

The residency took place on the behavioral health department of the hospital and, inspired by the patients, the staff and the environment there, Marijn produced new work that reflected her experience.
